FAMU Student Gives Invocation At Obama Rally

Posted by thelense on Sunday, September 28, 2008

Florida A&M Student Chelsea Matthews delivered the Invocation for the Obama Rally held today. Personally I think she did a really good job. She came off as very articulate and well spoken when speaking. And she looked really great (when doesn’t she though). A very good start to a very great Rally!

Dancing Moms Support Obama

Posted by thelense on Sunday, September 28, 2008

While the crowd prepared to hear from Jill Biden and Michelle Obama, the Rickards High School band kept us entertained. But while everyone else was watching the band I noticed this woman getting down to the music the band was playing. She was hitting the dance moves and just having a good time. I dont know if she is a mother or not but I imagined her to be a Dancing Mom For Obama lol.

I guess this is dancing parents for Obama because the dad holding the baby in the video was getting funky with it too!

Rickards High School Fills In For Marching 100

Posted by thelense on Sunday, September 28, 2008

The Richards High School band had to fill in for the Marching 100 toay. The high school band was given the task of warming up the crow for the arrival of Future First Lady Michelle Obama. I mus say the high school ban really showed up and showed out. I really believe their band director is a former member of the Marching 100 because the band really bought it. From SOS to Damaged to Got To Be Real to Spolight the band played a slew of hits that kept the energetic crowd on its feet!

Job well done to Rickards High for holding it down!

Clowns For Obama

Posted by thelense on Sunday, September 28, 2008

So today was the big day on campus. Future first lady Michelle Obama was going to visit the campus of Florida A&M University and give a speech. Also, Jill Biden the wife of Vice Presidential running mate Joe Biden was coming. Before the event started a female clown was campaigning hard for Obama. She set up a little table to do face painting for the kids and was a lot of fun!

Her posters were hard core!

Getting Back To My Roots

Posted by thelense on Saturday, September 27, 2008

I had the pleasure of attending African Religious Practices in Florida Conference. It was hosted by the Florida A&M University Office of Black Diasporan Culture. I really didn’t know what to expect going into the event because I was merely invited by someone I knew, but I went in with a open mind and a willingness to learn something new which is always a good approach. The objective of the conference was to help educate and expose a population to the concepts and ideas associated with African religious practices in teh state of Florida and provide dialog regarding various views about three (Yoruba, Palo, Aken) of the African Religions from historians, educators, researchers, and practitioners.

I arrived at the event, got my package, and took a seat on the front row so I could be up close with the panelist and soak in all that I was hearing. I also wanted to have a good shot of the speakers. The event didn’t start exactly on time so I recorded some of the really nice artwork and jewelry on display.

Very interesting and rewarding experience, definitely glad I went.

Are You Serious?

Posted by thelense on Saturday, September 27, 2008

Gotta get some stuff off my chest again so here comes a new post. I was in my room vibing to music when I heard a loud bang. Being that i’m the only one in the apartment I went to investigate. I looked all around the kitchen and living room and didn’t see anything so I was like cool must have been hearing things. So I go back into my room and as I am walking back in I hear a knock on the door, I look out the peep hole and see a white girl standing on the other side. So I turn down my music and go open the door. When I open the door the white girl tells me “Could you please turn your music down, Its loud and my roomates would like you to turn it down”. Now this would have been a simple OK no problem if it wasn’t for one little thing. I asked the girl where she lived and she pointed up stairs which means she lives on the 3rd floor. It was at that point I got ready for my rebuttal. Now every day and night the apartment above me has loud banging, stomping, running, jumping, and just random noises. But me being the understanding college student I am chalks it up to just regular stuff that occurs in student living. At night when I try to go to bed they walk up and down the stairs outside yelling, screaming, drunk, and all types of foolishness. NOT ONCE have I ever asked them to quiet down or be “considerate” because its student living and loud noises kinda go with the territory. So for this girl to come to my apartment and act like the noise was SUCH A PROBLEM really floored me. I told her look I could have easily went to your apartment many times and complained about all the random noises I hear but guess what I DONT why? Because this is student living. Now the fact that she was complaining and its only 5pm on a friday really pissed me off. Its not like im blasting music at 3am on a tuesday night when people are trying to sleep or study. Its a pretty standard friday afternoon and no one is doing anything important. She even tried to justify the noises coming from her apartment above by saying “My roomate likes to run around”, I think in my head “and I like to listen to music” so whats the big deal? Before she walked away she said she would “try” to keep quiet upstairs. I tell ya the nerve of her. She lucky I am an halfway educated and rational black man because if I wasn’t I would have slammed the door in BECKY face.

Magic School Bus Visits FAMU

Posted by thelense on Saturday, September 27, 2008

A magic voter registration school bus of some sort landed on FAMU’s campus today. I was walking from my last class and saw the colorful bus posted up on campus, so naturally being that I love all things colored and bus related I started taping. The best part of all was there was a HUGE ball along with the bus, it was truly a magical experience to see. I def should have went and asked the guys running the bus what was going on but I was to caught up in the colors and huge ball of it all to do anything other than film. Election season is upon us. Barack is debating tonight, Michell Obama is coming tomorrow, Sarah Palin is failing beautifully, the Mccain campign is close to exploding and to top it all of the weather outside is perfect! All of this in one day and its not even my birthday?

Sadly, Miss Frizzle was not on the bus this time (I know, I know, disappointing) 😦

Barack Obama Stops By FAMU Before Debate

Posted by thelense on Saturday, September 27, 2008

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama stopped by the campus of Florida A&M University today to get some strategy tips for his big debate tonight against John Mccain. I know Barack got excellent advice from the always wise and sage Soul Train! Obama is going to UNLEASH THE DRAGON on John Mccain tonight in the debate and its going to be a pretty darn funny thing to watch! So grab your popcorn, put plenty of ice in your cup, and enjoy the CONTINUED demise of the Mccain Campaign!

Debate starts at 8pm eastern time and the subjects will be foreign policy and national security (although I fully expect to see a lot of questions about the economy), Tune into Cspan if you wanna watch unfiltered coverage!

Marching 100 Loads Up To Kick Butt In ATL!

Posted by thelense on Saturday, September 27, 2008

The Florida A&M University Marching 100 (AKA) the best band ever, loaded up this morning to head off to the Atlanta Classic. The Marching 100 is sure to wow the crowd and steal the show as only they know how! Really wish I could be there this weekend but i’ll be in town listening to Michelle Obama (great consolation prize).

Note: I was walking behind a band member and unforatunetly she’s in the video a lot. Oh well, the pitfalls of amatuer journalism.
