FAMU Makes Sure Last Minute Voters Are Registered!

Posted by thelense on Monday, October 6, 2008

Well today was the last day to register to vote in the state of Florida. If you are reading this post and haven’t registered to vote then its probably already to late for you. FAMU alum Monique Gillum and a few other dedicated rattlers manned down the set and registered all those last minute folks who were to lazy to get registered before hand. I was glad that they were on the set today because the new voter registration card that I was sent has a mistake on it. For some reason the people at the elections place didnt match up my birthday. So, the birthday on my voter registration card is 6 days off from the one on my Drivers License. But no big deal, Monique Gillum made sure that I was taken care of! I know the turnout from FAMU students is going to be HUGE in this election. Because regardless fo what they say Famuans are registered in big numbers and will surely turn out to the polls in big numbers (atleast I hope so).

Fired Up And Ready To Vote!

Important: Regardless of who you are voting for please make sure you get to the polls and take part in this hisotrical election!

What Did The Parties Have To Say?

Posted by thelense on Wednesday, September 24, 2008

One of the coolest aspects of the political seminar was hearing from representatives from each of the two major parties. The sophomore class was able to secure two speakers to come discuss where the campaigns and the parties stood on certain hot button issues facing the country. There was a republican and a democrat and they both had some interesting things to say. After the republican spoke I was able to ask him a question (pertaining to why he thought fighting wars was more important than addressing domestic issues like poverty, education, economy, health care) and although he wasn’t able to answer it to my standard I still commend him on being passionate about his parties positions. He talked about dinosaurs though and that lost me lol.

Republican Speaker

Democrat Speaker

As far as who did a better job im going to go with the young man representing the DNC. The points he made wore more articulate and thought out. But a big thanks to both men for coming to the event.
