Rattlers…. Orange and Green!

Posted by thelense on Sunday, October 5, 2008

I like this chant/song, for some reason it gets me hype. I don’t think they play it that often though, because I didn’t even recognize it at first. But maybe that is my shortcoming?

Student Body Wishes FAMU A Happy 121st Birthday!

Posted by thelense on Friday, October 3, 2008

As I sat in convocation I started to think of ways that I could uniquely celebrate the 121st year of existence for my school Florida A&M University. Being that I started my video blog I felt the best way to go about it was to get dedications from students all over campus wishing FAMU a Happy Birthday! So here is the finished product. Students from all majors, classifications, and cities wishing the school that UNITES us all under a common goal academic pursuit and fellowship! Despite our differences today we are all rattlers and we come together to wish our beloved school a Happy 121st Birthday!

Happy Birthday FAMU From The Students!

A special thanks to everyone who participated to make this possible. Really appreciate you taking a few seconds out your day to show love to a school that I love, Florida A&M University!

The Greatest Alma Mater In All The Land!

Posted by thelense on Friday, October 3, 2008

Its no secret that Rattlers are very very very proud of their school. Ask any of us any and we will tell you that FAMU has the best everything in the world. Ok, while we may not have the best “EVERYTHING” in the world we certainly have one of the best Alma Mater’s out there. I love singing the Alma Mater, and the chorus is my favorite part! It is my goal for 2009 to learn all the words to the Alma Mater instead of just mouthing “watermelon” when third verse begins.

Fact: FAMU’s Alma Mater is the best

FAMU Concert Choir Brings Down The House!

Posted by thelense on Friday, October 3, 2008

The Florida A&M University Concert Choir did an amazing job at Founders Day Convocation. The choir directed by Mark Butler performed “Good News”. The Choir received a standing ovation from the crowd. I really enjoyed the song as it gave me a negro spiritual vibe and I don’t know about you all but I love me a good negro spiritual! Anyways, See it for yourself!

Good News

This is the second performance of the year that they have hit out the park! Keep up the good work Concert Choir! I am definitely a fan!

FAMU Founders Day Convocation 2008

Posted by thelense on Friday, October 3, 2008

Today Florida A&M University turned 121 years old. The school celebrates the anniversary of FAMU’s founding each year with a Founders Day Convocation. Now for those of you who don’t attend FAMU, you may not be familiar with what a Convocation is. Essentially a Convocation is like a Pep Rally and a State of the Union Address. Today was a Founders Day Convocation which is a little different because its held in our school Auditorium Lee Hall (where dreams become realities). If anyone knows why its not held in the gym let me know. But the convocation was amazing and really inspiring. Old and New rattlers, politicians, educators, students, and retirees all under the same roof. Definitely a time of FAMunity!

Watching the VP Debate

Posted by thelense on Thursday, October 2, 2008

I am currently watching the VP Debate on C-Span because I like my coverage unfiltered.

As a serious amateur journalist it is my job to be objective on things like Debates and such. And with that being said…

SARAH PALIN SUCKS! (Kidding)

Biden was cool, could have conveyed his points stronger though

Personally, I think the debate was rather dull. Not worth watching on the set for sure. It seemed that Sarah Palin made up her own questions and her own answers. Gwin Ifill was just there to um.. Look professional and throw out random questions that were just for show. Biden didn’t win and Palin didnt lose. So I guess thats a sort of draw? Regardless of this debate Barack Obama is still kicking butt in Florida and thats all that matter! Swing state baby swing!

FAMU Career Center Fall 2008 Career Expo!

Posted by thelense on Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Had the opportunity to attend the FAMU Career Center Expo held at the Leon County Civic Center. I rode the shuttle to the event (it left me and I was stranded at the event until I found a ride back to campus). There were a lot of big companies in the building and it was definitely a good experience. From Proctor & Gamble to Walmart the companies were there talking to the best and brightest FAMU has to offer. The turnout was really good and overall the companies had some great information and opportunities to offer. I still feel the event was more geared towards traditional Business and Accounting but there was something for everyone if you knew where to look. I got approached by a lot of the companies and they told me about how I could use my degree to my advantage in their organization. I thought that was kind of cool. Eventually I gave out all my resumes and was burned out from “professionalism fatigue” so I had to take a seat.

YBP’s (Young, Black, Professionals) all over the place! I really hope a lot of FAMUANS snagged those jobs or internships they wanted!
